The 100-acre Brown's Lake Bog feels primordial, with its fern-carpeted lowland forest and surrounding oak-studded glacial hills. Designated a National Natural Landmark, the focal point of the preserve is its floating bog - home to the rare and whimsical buckbean, pitcher plant, cottongrass and many more. All told, the preserve is home to more than 20 rare plants. Hike the .75-mile trail (.25-mile boardwalk rated easy, .5-mile loop trail rated moderate).
